ORGL 504:  Organizational Communication

This Course helped me to better understand the meanings and functions of communication in organizations. This curriculum had an emphasis on internal and external communication dynamics within organizations, and how socialization, technology and globalization all play critical roles in effective communication within organizations.

Artifact

“Organizations should be aware and knowledgeable about how the different generations deploy these strategies and how they complement, support, conflict or compete in order to leverage generational diversity and create intention and alignment in support of the organization’s overall objectives” (Conrad and Poole, 2012; Lipman, 2017).

This is an analysis of how organizational communications can be better achieved amongst different generations within an organization

ORGL 518:  Transforming Leadership

This course focused on the differences between transactional leadership and transformational leadership. Transformational leadership is a style of guidance in which leaders recognize a higher need in both individuals and organizations, and strive to create environments where these higher needs can be fulfilled.

Artifact

“The transformational dynamic that mutually empowers leaders and followers involves as we have seen, wants and needs, motivation and creativity, conflict and power. But at its heart lie values” (Burns, 2003, p. 211).

Values are the guiding compass for an ever-moving organization, comparatively, they are the foundation upon which a house is built and then continuously remodeled to satisfy current needs.

ORGL 520:  Negotiation and Conflict Resolution

This course focused on conflict transformation. In organizations it can be common for conflicts to occur. However, how these conflicts are handled can be the difference between a healthy and an unhealthy organizational dynamic. Conflict and resolution negotiations that come to impasse, often do so, because two parties that have alternate agendas or desires are unable to listen to the needs of the opposing party or be transparent enough to be able to find a win-more situation in which both parties come to a better outcome because of the negotiations.

Artifact

“A more conducive environment to conflict transformation is found within integrative negotiation scenarios, which is based on the idea of creating win-win situations. Integrative negotiations require both parties to understand what’s important to them, what their priorities are, and what trade-offs they’re willing to make“ (Consultanant, 1970).

COML 597/ORGL 610: Communication & Leadership Ethics

This class examined the personal, organizational, and social values present organization and society, and the moral dilemmas that occur in them.

Artifact

In Dialogic Ethics it is important to realize that the moments we are in are historic, and it is upon the individuals involved to understand and discuss new possibilities to move forward with in order for society to have a better ethical understanding of who we are. Before we can achieve this however, both parties must have the understanding to learn from one another and build off of the commonalities of understanding (Arnett, 2008).

ORGL 615: Org Theory & Behavior

Description

Use of systems thinking as an approach to organizational culture and cross-functional purpose. This course has helped me to better understand how organizations can become solely reactionary and have a culture that becomes one that lacks proactivity and lacks insight into the core root of problems. When organizations fall into this cultural norm, constant reactionary behavior is inevitable.
